What is a Pt-100 Sensor?
A Pt-100 sensor is a platinum resistance thermometer used to measure temperature with great accuracy. “Pt” stands for platinum; “100” refers to the fact that at exactly 0 °C the resistance of the sensor is 100 ohms. When the temperature is increased, the resistance of the platinum element will increase in a predictable pattern and thus be able to indicate accurate temperature measurement.
Among other RTDs, Pt 100 sensors are the most preferred due to their highest accuracy, repeatability, and long-term stability.
Key Features of the Tempress Pt100 Sensor
The Tempress Pt 100 Sensor is a highly sophisticated RTD sensor engineered in a way that it can withstand extreme conditions and still produce highly accurate measurements of temperature. Some features include:
1. High Accuracy & Stability
- Provides temperature readings with very little deviation.
- Incredible long-term stability and drift.
2. Wide Temperature Range
- Depending on the type of sensor and insulation, it can measure temperatures between -200°C and 600°C.
3. Fast Response Time
- The fast reaction time makes it perfect for real-time temperature monitoring.
4. Rugged and Long Lasting Design
- It is made of high-quality materials such that it withstands harsh industrial conditions.
- Come with protective sheaths to enhance their durability.
5. Compatible with a Range of Devices
- It can easily integrate with temperature controllers, transmitters, and data logging systems.
How does the Tempress Pt 100 Sensor work?
The operation of the Tempress Pt 100 Sensor is based on the relationship between resistance and temperature. It changes or varies when temperature is sensed inside the platinum element, which responds to temperature changes.
Such resistance can then be measured using a Wheatstone bridge primitive circuit or any other such techniques of electronics, before converting that to relative temperatures deemed standard using tabulated conversions.
There are different types of wiring possible for Pt 100 sensors and the common ones are:
2-Wire System: Simplest design but gives rather inaccurate result due to wire resistance.
3-Wire System: Compensates for the lead wire resistance and thus makes it more accurate.
4-Wire System: Most accurate, fully compensating for the lead.
Applications of Tempress Pt 100 Sensor
Possibly some of the most versatile temp sensing devices are these Tempress Pt 100 Sensors, as they can be applied nearly universally. Here are a few of their common usages:
1. Industrial Process Control
- Critical temperature monitoring sensors for chemical plants, oil refineries, and food processing industries.
2. HVAC Systems
- Heated, ventilated, and air-conditioned hospitable environments are rendered by temperature control.
3. Pharmaceutical and Medical Applications
- Required for sterilization, storage, and research into vaccines and in laboratories.
4. Automotive and Aerospace
- For condition monitoring of engines, climate control in aircraft, etc.
5. Power Plants
- Used in boilers, turbines, and energy systems for their optimal performance.
